Hurricane Electric Goes Big in the Apple
Fremont, California - September 11, 2003 - Hurricane Electric, a leading Technical Service Provider, announced today that it has increased the size of its connection to the NYIIX peering fabric. This upgrade comes on the heels of Hurricane Electric's recent addition of multiple OC48s to NYIIX, one of the largest neutral Internet exchange points on the U.S. East coast, which connects it to the rest of Hurricane Electric's global network.

The Gigabit Ethernet port that Hurricane Electric now employs to the NYIIX switch will allow it to dramatically increase the amount of traffic it can handle and give Hurricane Electric the ability to peer with more participants at the NYIIX exchange point. Hurricane Electric customers benefit from this upgrade by experiencing more capacity, increased reliability and faster throughput.

"The upgrade to Gigabit Ethernet continues in the growth of our network; it benefits our customers with better routes and eliminates a potential bottleneck in getting to other networks," said Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric.

Hurricane Electric takes pride in its self-healing network architecture, which virtually eliminates any single point of failure. Hurricane Electric operates its own Nationwide OC48 backbone, ranked among the top in the nation.

To celebrate, Hurricane Electric is extending a special offer of flat rate Gigabit Ethernet transit (1,000 Mbps of IP) at selected locations for $20,000 per month. This offer is available in 6 locations throughout the United States, including Equinix in Ashburn, VA; Equinix in San Jose, CA; NYIIX (Telehouse) in New York, NY; PAIX (Switch and Data) in Palo Alto, CA; Market Post Tower (55 South Market St.) in San Jose, CA; and Hurricane Electric's Fremont Facility (760 Mission Court) in Fremont, CA.
